Jack Sundstrom is a bassist, composer, and educator from Chicago. Sundstrom's most recent project "Songs From an Island That Doesn't Exist" seeks to create the folk music from an imaginary society in the future in which humans, technology and nature exist in a symbiotic relationship. It achieves this by incorporating aspects of many folk traditions from around the world as well as prominent electronic musical components. Sundstrom began his musical journey at the age of 4 studying traditional Celtic music with the great Noel Rice. He has since found a love for performing all kinds of creative and improvisational music. Sundstrom's wide ranging musical interests have enabled him to perform with artists ranging from Jim Peterik to Ernest Dawkins. He is a regular member of the Shout Section Big Band, the Marquette Park Composers Workshop, and the Academy of Irish Music. Sundstrom has also performed with Isaiah Spencer, Paul Wertico, Geof Bradfield, Vincent Davis, Tatum Langley, Thaddeus Tukes, Kabir Dalawari, Janelle Finton, Jeff LeDeur, Shelby Conditt, Pete Fucinaro, Ted Sirota, and many others at venues such as The Jazz Showcase, Evanston SPACE, Andy's Jazz Club, Merriman's Playhouse, The Grape Life, and many others. As an educator Sundstrom holds a faculty position at Bach to Rock.
